Showing Your Appreciation - How To Make Others Feel Special

Grenville Kleiser Showing Your Appreciation - How To Make Others Feel Special Two of my favorite shows on TV revolve around decorating a room in someone's house. I enjoy the shows because I learn fun, creative, and inexpensive ways to decorate but the main reason I like the shows is the whole premise behind them. In both shows, someone - spouse, parent, sibling, or friend, wants to show their appreciation for the person whose room is being redecorated by surprising them with a new design. The person on the receiving end has typically been under some type of pressure or stress or has gone out of their way to help others and deserves some special treatment. In the shows the homeowner leaves for the day or weekend without any clue that a total redesign is taking place at their home. While they are gone, a design team, working furiously with family and friends, gives them a beautiful new room. When the person returns, they walk into their house and get 'surprised' by the design team and their family and friends. There are many tears of astonishment and joy as they realize how loved they are ? that someone would go to so much trouble for them. And there are tears on both sides as the leader of the project shares why they wanted to do this for their loved one and why they appreciate the other person. It is a very moving moment with hugs, praise, and gratitude. This is the part of the show that really touches me. Is there someone in your life right now that needs a show of appreciation? Maybe a spouse, parent, sibling, child, friend or coworker? Who would benefit, (besides yourself), if you reached out with love? You don't have to remodel a room! Just the fact that you reached out will mean more to the person than what you do. You could show support and caring with a phone call, a card, an evening out, a home cooked meal, time set aside to just listen, give them a break from their routine or a helping hand. Use your wonderful imagination or borrow from others to come up with a show of appreciation for someone close to you. Now? who needs your special touch? Over the next week, select one person to reach out to. Decide how you want to show your appreciation and follow through. Just think how good you will feel when you see the surprised look and happy smile on their face! You both will enjoy the outcome! Universal Thought Systems Language Part 2 Before we are able to use the Universal Thought System in a positive expansive manner, we must learn to use certain words in our language more effectively. The prime characteristic of the Universal Thought System is its consistency. It may not be used to manipulate. It may not be used to gain an advantage. It treats everyone equally. It eliminates the negative side of opposites. Why is this Universal Language so critical to our progress? In our thoughts and actions, we either seek idols or we seek truth. When we find the truth all our answers are provided. Truth contains all answers to every problem. Truth has always existed and will always exist. Our beliefs and feelings color our truth. They act as filters between our truth and our illusions. Everyone Has Been Hurt...Part 3 Continued.... Believe in Yourself! A near middle-aged man in one of my last workshops had followed his calling for the past decade with unbounded zeal. Alas, his career had never developed into long-term employment but rather, was fraught with numerous set-backs, lay-offs and even dismissals. With five children to feed and his life passion now shelved this man faced depression and desperation. The Miracle of Personal Development One day Mr. Shoaff said, "Jim, if you want to be wealthy and happy, learn this lesson well: Learn to work harder on yourself than you do on your job." A Feline Example On Courage Fangs. Killer claws. Hisses, grrrs...and later, yelps. Who is not familiar with cat-dog combats? It's a "hair-raising" party of limbs and tails and yes, the loser sheds most of the fur- mostly, the cat. Encouragement--Heart At Work Encouragement can have a very powerful effect on bosses and co-workers. The literal meaning of the word, encourage, is to put heart into. When this definition is applied to work situations, it suggests: Beautiful Day Blues The massive orb dominates the aqua crystalline backdrop of its own making, floods its rays on everything below. The sky devoid of a single cloud seems as empty as I feel and the beach looks like an arid desert, molded by tireless wind and blazing heat. I picture myself atop an Arabian camel, parched with thirst, crossing an unforgiving series of never-ending dunes, up one and down the next, no rhyme nor reason, only the nose of the animal in front of me. It Only Takes a Spark - Pass It On Great inspiring people have influenced people in every area of life throughout centuries. Henry David Thoreau, the great 19th century transcendentalist writer, was influenced by the great Ralph Waldo Emerson. Thoreau was the impetus for Ghandi's and Martin Luther King Jr's civil disobedience, which ultimately changed the shape of the world for a better humanity. Socrates taught Plato who taught Aristotle, who collectively remain the greatest philosophical trio in history. We often stand on the shoulders of giants. And we can notice connections such as these throughout history--a lineage--a passing down of wisdom. Such is the case in the drumming world as well. It only takes a spark. And that spark can potentially inspire many to enter a new encouraging world, accompanied by enthusiasm, new hope, and excitement. Self Acceptance ? Lessons From My Hair Affair For our diet and, indeed, in every aspect of our lives, we must remember to relax from the demands of the unrealistic ideal. For those trying to lose weight, you cannot be the Barbie. For those lifting weights, you cannot be the Governor of California. Accepting this principle first, can give you the peace of mind to love what you do have, lower frustration, and actually make weight loss easier in the long run! Have You Ever Felt GOD in You? God is the primordial Creative Force that is believed to have created each atom that we see around us. When you sit and muse, have you ever heard a voice inside you talking to you? That is the voice that is in you, whom you may also call GOD. Careful What You Wish For... I have always been fascinated by the concept of "wishing.", especially "collective wishing." If enough people wish for the same thing, does it make it happen? For instance, humans probably always wished that they could talk to each other without having to "go there" physically. Perhaps the invention of the telephone was actually the result of a long-standing collective wish from days of the caveman. From the long lensed perspective of human history, the telephone, which literally manifests far away voices into thin air, truly is a magical object.
