Plastics In Our Nations Dumps and Landfills
Long Term Environmental Effect of Plastics, Composites and Other Materials on Underground Water Supplies through Leaching and Decay. Today we see old airliners lined up in the desert, which are made of aluminum for the most part. We know what these aircraft are made of and we also see the scrap value of aluminum. So much of them will eventually be recycled in the future. We know that when some composites burn they will unleash cyanide gas when they burn. What can we expect from them when they start decomposing? How long will this take, some say that certain composites and coatings made to withstand extremely high temperatures as well as near absolute zero temperatures that the life and decomposition period could be thousands of years? Maybe, probably not, not much man has ever created lasts very long exposed to the solar radiation bombardment of Earth, weather of freezing and heat, however surely it appears that it must eventually decompose? So then what is the answer to the question? We can simulate the exposure to solar radiation and we can simulate the extreme heat, salt spray, extreme cold, acid rain, etc, yet we see no relevant studies on this. We ought to know what we are working with here and how we might better re-use those components. The 7E7 will have just about 50% of the aircraft made of composite, the 777 just under 12%. Many Airbus models have composite vertical stabilizers right now rotting in the sun so the natural test of the decomposition of this not so natural product is already beginning whether or not we know what will happen. If the structural integrity for a vertical stabilizer is gone, then can that material be cut up into squares, coated and used for insulation? Is it safe too? Remembering our unfortunate hard lessons of Asbestos, a benign substance, but the human lungs go berserk when they come in contact with it. Can it be used in the roof structures of floating airports, between the walls of the double-hulled oil tankers for strength or under sidewalks? Can it be sliced up and used for retaining wall stakes? Can it be used for school bus top non-rusting reinforcement due to its lightweight and ability to withstand the elements? If not, then for what? If so, why not? We need answers so we can continue developing these new materials, with the knowledge of what they can and cannot do. If we are going to put these materials in Space Stations, Satellites, Deep Sea Submersibles, Automobiles, Aircraft, etc then we best have the data available on the decomposition rates to prevent accidents and environmental issues far into the future. Media and the Iraq War, Some Random Thoughts Indeed 2001 Here are some miscellaneous thoughts on issues many of which are opinion and should be looked at as such, some are not even my opinion but opinions of people I have talked with and wished to pass on. The first item I wish to discuss is the World News reporting which is anti-American. First I have seen many reports about the Iraq situation. We are seeing that foreign reporters are seeking out Iraq families who are lying on TV about the US activities. These are being reported as Gospel by the media and shown throughout the world. I would have to say we are now fighting the anti-American liberal World Wide media, which is further inciting locals and other Muslims of neighboring countries to do demonstrations and thus rally anti-American support. Advances in Nuclear Energy; Safe, Clean and Reliable The newest pebble reactors are easy to build and manage and have extremely high out put considering their small size, perfect for islands set down wind from populations. Unfortunately the Three-mile Island and Chernople incident make populations feel uncomfortable with Nuclear. Therefore the increased regulations have made the cost of construction almost not worth it. The ROI of a nuclear power plant could take as long 150 years. This is so unfortunate seeing how great Nuclear power is and how clean it can be when handled correctly. For this reason in the past three decades no new permits have been granted and we continue to have a large percentage of our power coming from fossil fuels which is a problem for air quality and long term it has many issues such as acid rain. This problem was affecting our team in my company and costing our franchisees money and ROI time, due to increased costs in new equipment. The increase in steel costs added $1800 to the trucks and $3000 to the truck beds? All over the import tax and the manipulation, which occurred due to supply and demand issues of the new pricing caused by those import taxes. Even still the steel industry did not have substantially higher profits and hurt were all the manufacturers such as ship builders, truck and car manufacturers. How can we as Americans actually ever believe in Justice in this country when we cannot even trust our own government to tell the truth? In other words does "Truth, Justice and the American Way" still exist in America? Did it ever? Does the government always lie under oath? Canada Tries to Stop Flow of Drugs into the US As more and more cities and states set up websites and pass measures to allow for importing price controlled Canadian drugs into the US to control the rising cost of healthcare, Canada is starting to take notice on the impact of such practices on it's government run healthcare system. Canada has a population of around 30 million and is not set up to handle the volume of medications needed to supply a country like the US with it's aging population of over 250 million. Hypocrisy of Over Regulation All to often law makers and regulators create rules and regulations using a linear mindset. They claim they understand the issues, even have public hearings to prove it. Yet the people who are able to attend such things are usually lawyers and losers. Losers because anyone in the market place who was winning does not have time to show up, they are too busy producing and participating in their respective industries. So they hire attorneys to show up and talk with regulators. Those attorneys who have no real clients of any value also show up because they know be getting in bed with the regulators and bending over a little, they can get the occasional reach around in the process and a little juice. This can help them get good corporate clients and make big bucks. All these scoundrel, I mean attorneys have to do is promise the regulators jobs when they get sick of the bureaucracy. The Absurdity of the Public School Monopoly The notion that local governments should have almost total monopoly control over our children's education is not only unjust and tyrannical, it is also absurd. Children need education, to be sure, but they also need food, clothing, and shelter. The same poor or irresponsible parents who public-school apologists claim will not educate their children without compulsion, might not feed, clothe, or shelter them either. An Environmental Voting Guide for US State Elections In these times when states are suffering extreme downward pressure on budgets and spending, how is our environment making out?
