Faith in Our Government
Many have lost faith in the government and are completely afraid that no one there has a clue as to what they are doing. Others have complete faith. Which is the right answer? Is it somewhere in between? Are our tax dollars being spent efficiently? Who is over seeing this huge blob of bureaucracy? The consumers and tax payers; remember us? Shouldn't all agencies walk the walk or close the agency. Here are a few of the unbelievable failures of our Government Agencies with regards to public monies and information. Simply go to this site put in any of the letters designating any agency and see how much, fraud, abuse and waste there is and then multiply that blob of bureaucratic waste by the number of agencies listed on our site. http://www.gao.gov Just search any of the multitude of agencies and see that few if any have a near perfect records or timely reports, it is a total disaster. Too many agencies wasting too much money and then they cannot even tell us where it was spent or how much they did spend. Just how many agencies are there? Well there are more than you think and none of them do anything very well. Yes, no doubt, but if we are going to put CEOs in jail for not filling out forms or crash the stock of a company for a late filing or questionable accounting practice then surely a few heads in government ought to roll in retrospect, that is what any leader of any company would do, and what any Chief of any agency ought to have the balls to do, yet they simply promote the offenders to another division within the agency and up they go onto the ladder of the governmental blob. The abuses and scandals in government far out weigh anything we generally see in the corporate world. A corporation, which ran like any government agency would be out of business and sued into oblivion by shareholders and Elliot Spitzer or SEC within weeks. Yet these issues continue and are so prevalent that they are actually accepted as the norm? We need to clean up the wasteful mess in government agencies as they spend our monies. Then you can still inexpensively secure your borders and go pick up all those who fell asleep trying to illegally cross a border or line of defense, when you found the time? Fury and Sound as GM Seeds Abound We have all heard of the huge debates surrounding genetically modified crops. Yet we also have all seen the advertising to sponsor a child in the third world. Now the GM crop debate has erupted on other continents and smaller groups are raising cane. In Brazil in particular has some harsh words on the issue from at least one critic. The Dragons I hope to provide a starting point for the serious scholar interested in the all important Chanes of Central America and convince researchers to look into the Egyptian dragons (crocodiles) and Chinese as well. The politics of BRAC are not in line with the reality of protecting our nation. Additionally the men and generals who are deciding on the things are being too nice to each other and too much ego stroking to make for meaningful debate. I think they are a bunch of pussies and we need some real men to hash this out, who are doing it for our nation, not their friends or fiefdoms. Get real. The CSPAN debates are also stupid as our enemies are watching it too. US Trade Deficit with Bordering Neighbors The trade deficit with Canada is now 50 Billion per year. The amount of money sent back Mexico each week from migrant labor and/or illegal aliens is estimated at 8 billion per week. That is 416 Billion per year, not all that comes back here, over half moves to other lands including Cuba a non-trading partner and China which already have incredibly huge trade deficits with. As we trade with other nations and uplift their economies it provides us too with benefits. Peaceful and successful neighbors and trading partners makes for smooth relationships. We must worry however that if we are paying interest on the money, which is no longer in our economy much of which will not come back, then in fact we are fueling their economies and paying the interest too. Is the US the world's co-signer and if so, shouldn't we have a few guarantees and a level playing field? One could say by increasing their economies, we develop a middle class there and their citizens will then be able to afford what we sell, this is good. However if for instance Mexico trades and buys most of their consumables from China, then the money will flow to their shores instead of ours. However if we (our businesses and citizens) invest in China then we will get back some of this in growth. One could conclude that although there is a trade deficit in consumables those who of us who own mutual funds, which have emerging markets strategies, we will receive benefit and return of those dollars. When simply looking at the trade deficits, one might conclude we are in dire straights, that of course being a factual short-term view, but on further review one might also see the long-term strategy and see that as the world comes closer together everyone wins. An extension of the previous Canada-U.S. Free Trade Agreement of 1989, NAFTA is the second largest free trade area in the world. The revolving door fo government lawyers and private practicing lawyers and lobbyists must stop if we are to maintain any real sense of integrity or fairness in our systems. You know, that "Truth, Justice and the American Way" thing that the government lawyers have such a tough time coping with? End Time Clock Ticking Away? Earlier this month, I heard President George W. Bush and Mahmoud Abbas, the Prime Minister of the Palestinians speaking of another Peace Treaty with Israel. President Bush spoke about the boarder security of the two countries: Israel and Palestine. Abbas of course, spoke of achieving final peace between the two nations. Upon hearing these two heads of state speak, I remembered what the Bible stated in 1st Thessalonians Chapter 5: Verse 3: "When you hear them say peace and safety then sudden destruction cometh upon them." Why Do US Media Ignore Secret UK Government Memo On A Mega Iraq War Conspiracy? The blogosphere has been jumping around the story like crazy but it seems the mainstream media are doing their best to ignore it. Yet it's been branded the most extensive case of governing-level conspiracy plotting in ages. CNN spent very limited time on it and that's also a pretty accurate indicator of the attention most other media outlets have devoted to it so far. Even though some 88 members of Congress openly inquired about it and a few other US opionion leaders spoke out against it. But that was it more or less. What was? A recently leaked internal UK government memo dated July 2002, that was so secret extra copies could not be made, not even for internal use. Federal Trade Commission Partnerships Questioned In many reports we see that the Federal Trade Commission has referenced the Better Business Bureau. It appears that the Federal Trade Commission is using this private business as an example and potential justification of their on-going rule making and regulation in many industry sectors and categories. Some feel that any association with the Better Business Bureau is bothersome in that if they are in constant alliance with the Federal Trade Commission then the Federal Trade Commission, is not watching their potential abuses or manipulations in the free market. Political Correctness got you down? I hear it all the time; you can't say that. But why not, I just did you see? Besides it's the truth isn't it? They say; "well yes, it is the truth, but you cannot say that!" Do you sometimes believe it is all a bunch of crap? We have the PC police running around telling you what you can and cannot say now? Wow, I know there is a law about how you are to do just about everything you do, but now we have unspoken laws about things you cannot speak of and it is all a big secret? And do not ask what these things are you cannot even mention it. Really? What about normal human interaction and conversation? Oh and before I continue another one of my "Rants from Lance" series here there is a good book you should read, well actually a couple of them. Okay let's begin with a book I just finished reading; Question Authority Policemen in many US cities are taking their new authority over the terrorism issue way too seriously. They are using it as a reason to harass our citizenry. Just like a bunch of $5.00 and hour security guards. Give a guy a little authority and a badge and boy oh boy he'll show you. You know the problems in America with security guards who are so over zealous that they offend the people who make their job available. Now we have a recruitment issue with not enough people for the jobs in policing. So we are hiring security guards and giving them too much power. Toll Ways Hurt The Flow of Transportation The United States has never done a full study on the economic losses caused by the toll ways, which impede our daily lives and the flow of our transportation. Transportation is vital to the health of a nation, its GDP and the flow of commerce and trade. Each time we put up a barrier or tax something we slow down our civilization and that has a ripple effect which extends past the regions where those toll ways are. Toll Ways are a tax on civilization and make no sense because they slow economic progress and therefore cause a decrease in economic output and the over all tax base of payroll and sales tax. In the end we all lose. But how much did we lose and how much are we losing each day?
