Smelter Closures In America Hurt Our Industrial Output
The United States is losing its industrial capacity quite rapidly. Some environmentalists call these "old industries" and say we do not need them anymore; that we want clean industries. Yet the environmental mitigation equipment has kept up with the needs and our heavy and older industrial industries. Such industries are extremely important to the health of our nation because they represent the raw material production needed to make things. The closer these industries are to the final assembly points of parts means cost savings are rendered which make it easier to compete on the finished products with foreign competitors. For instance if we have a low dollar compared to the rest of the world we have an advantage in cost. But if we eat up that advantage in transporting the processed raw materials from foreign lands then the advantage is lost in transportation and distribution. When a smelter closes in the US which processes aluminum then the supply is taken out of the market and the price increases. If no more smelters exist then we have to import the material from foreign soils. These costs increase those things we manufacture here, then it is harder for The Boeing Company to compete with Airbus when it wants to sell 50 billion dollars worth of airliners to them. Likewise the new light aircraft manufacturing sector moving into India can blows the doors off of Cessna and Beechcraft-Ratheon. It is serious business as such closures ripple thru the economy and cause damage to our already weakened, but rebounding manufacturing sector. As a teenager learning to fly, I would on long cross country flights often circle around such industrial processing plants and look at the power lines, rail lines, highways that went to them to have the resources needed to produce whatever it was they made. Then not far down the road, sometimes 50, 100, 150 miles you would see a mine which is where the material came from, then the other way you would see a big city with huge manufacturing plants which would use those materials to make stuff. It was much like looking over a giant model railroad, everything worked in unison. But when you take away a component you remove the efficiency of the system. This hurts us in America. If we over regulate and kill one industry, because we call it "old" we destroy the flows of efficiency in manufacturing. Thus one linear thought and bad policy tends to wipe out entire possible opportunities for the future. Other Smelters shut down were in Great Falls MT and other places in this great Nation of ours. The environmentalists claim it needs to be done due to Global Warming and even have statistics to back them up. Yes there is some pollution but we have new modern anti-pollution equipment for upgrades in these industries, yet every time a plant or industrial facility tries to upgrade some one sues them. This is a complex issue and I think one, which should be talked about with regards to the Fluoride that is produced and how we feed it to our kidneys to get rid of it in our drinking water. We need to be able to process aluminum better and we are going to need more of it and other exotic metals and formulations in the future, which will probably not be able to be made in third world countries, without massive infrastructures, additional costs and years in the making. We study flows in all industries; airliners as they travel the country, trucks and cars, money flows too. Hypocrisy of Over Regulation All to often law makers and regulators create rules and regulations using a linear mindset. They claim they understand the issues, even have public hearings to prove it. Yet the people who are able to attend such things are usually lawyers and losers. Losers because anyone in the market place who was winning does not have time to show up, they are too busy producing and participating in their respective industries. So they hire attorneys to show up and talk with regulators. Those attorneys who have no real clients of any value also show up because they know be getting in bed with the regulators and bending over a little, they can get the occasional reach around in the process and a little juice. This can help them get good corporate clients and make big bucks. All these scoundrel, I mean attorneys have to do is promise the regulators jobs when they get sick of the bureaucracy. Maryland Lawyers and Politicians Want More Regulations We know that in Maryland, which some call "Merry Land" due to its completely liberal skew that Sarbaines Oxley laws were born. These laws no matter what anyone will tell you, have done more to upset our trade deficits with China than any other single factor. Senator Sarbaines is not even running for re-election now, which is smart because he would have major opposition and who ever was close to beating him would have on hell of a bank roll to do it. It is hard to say really which is worse; Osama Bin Laden hiding in a Cave or Senator Sarbaines who lives in a box (opinion). Monetary Flows, Consumer Debt, Policy, Trade Deficit and Reality America has some monetary issues, which need to be addressed. First consumer debt is at issue; the average consumer is upside down in their cars, over extended on credit card debt and living in a house, which they may have 10-15% equity and probably less with all these new home sales on 2-3% down and all the re-financing to pay off short term debt. Second; lets look at Wal-Mart; You buy a product there, 6% goes to the employee, 10% is profit to the company, 80% goes to re-stock or the cost of goods sold. Of the 80% about 20-25% goes to China. Now then how long will it take at 433 Billion dollars a year for China to have all of our money, leaving no money flow for us to circulate? Well if we keep putting money into our economy, it would take forever, but if we do not then eventually all the money flow will go. DC Lawyers; Have I Got a Case for You? This is no time for the Black community to sue the CSX Railroad which is a conglomeration of merged companies and the Southern Pacific Railroad Co, which did receive profits from the use for Black slave labor, but had nothing to do with CSX today which is a well diversified company in color of skin and forms of transportation. Bush is unable to complete his second term, 2008 will bring the third open presidential election (no incumbent running) in 20 years. Even though that's still four years into the future, the campaign will be unofficially getting underway almost immediately. Ask an economist for proof of one of their pet theories and you'll find quickly that the age old axiom that we all learned in school and work place training seminars is dead wrong. You can ask a stupid question if you're talking to an economist and that question can, in fact, make you stupid. The flow of clean and fresh water has to do with which way the rivers flow and the weather that delivers the water to the land by way of rain. The Politics Of The American Dream The American Dream is the promise to have it all and enjoy it all. It's been glorified and sentimentalized as a utopian goal not just by the media and Hollywood stars, but also by businesses and politicians, including the President of the United States. But in reality, the American Dream is becoming more and more like the 'Impossible Dream.' Today, many Americans believe that their odds of winning the lottery are better than attaining the American Dream. Faith in Our Government Many have lost faith in the government and are completely afraid that no one there has a clue as to what they are doing. Others have complete faith. Which is the right answer? Is it somewhere in between? Are our tax dollars being spent efficiently? Who is over seeing this huge blob of bureaucracy? Often this is done to put fear into consumers and justify their need. Truly very little government is actually needed at all. Any studier of government would agree. North Korea and Diplomatic Solutions; Random Thoughts Part I You know now that North Korea is backing down on their nuclear ambitions we seem to have a problem with the 8 nuclear weapons already created that no one wishes to address. In studying the reports and having thoughts on this matter; it seems we might still end up in a war over these issues. Should we use warfare to serve our political will and if we try we should do so in a cost conscious manner. Here are some thoughts on winning a military victory against North Korea to serve our political forthwith. First it would appear we have many allies in the region, including some from not so far away. Pakistan a potential partner in the over taking of the government is just iching to flex it's perceived military might and make friends with us after we got upset at the non capture of Osama Bin Laden and kind of asked about why he might have hidden briefly in Pakistan. One CIA man has potentially targeted Pakistan as aiding and giving comfort to our enemy there? But Pakistan also wants some F-16s and of course we want them to buy such aircraft from us. Meanwhile the Israelis see China as a good market to sell the latest warfare technologies? But who might China be looking at as it builds up its forces, it has no enemies that large? Or does it; as in the United States?
